Searching for the answer to how to remove sublimation ink from metal? Well, I got you here. In today’s article, I will be explaining the most effective way/method to remove the sublimation ink from metal. Also, we performed some experiments and on the basis of that, we have concluded the result. So keep on reading to know the fastest and the best way to remove the sublimation ink from metal.
Let’s take the example of the metallic tumbler here for easy understanding for all. We performed the experiment using a metallic tumbler and we sublimated 3 tumblers with the same sublimation ink, design, etc. Then we tried to remove sublimation ink from them using 3 different methods.
- Using white vinegar
- Using apple cider vinegar
- Using bleach
Each one is different from the other. But the result with White vinegar was the best and fastest. So, we can conclude that the answer to “how to remove sublimation ink from metal” is,
“In order to remove the sublimation ink from the metal, you should use white vinegar. Pour it into a bowl and place the metallic object i.e. metallic tumbler in it. Leave for 45 minutes and after that with the interval of 15 minutes scrub the printed ink area on the metallic tumbler. Done with 2-3 times and all the sublimation ink will be gone from there.”
Now, if you are into more details of the experiment we have done, then keep on reading. I will explain every bit of that.

Remove Sublimation Ink From Metal Using White Vinegar
So, we started by pouring the standard white vinegar into a bowl and dipping the metallic tumbler in it and leaving it for 45 minutes in it. Then using the simple scrub we start scrubbing the ink off the tumbler and slowly it started vanishing. Then we left the tumbler for another 15 minutes in the bowl and repeat the process again. We did scrubbing 2 times and 99% ink vanished off of the tumbler. We then scrubbed a bit more and boom. All the ink was gone from the metallic tumbler within an hour.
Remove Sublimation Ink From Metal Using Apple Cider Vinegar
The whole process was the same as white vinegar. The difference was just using apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar. After 45 minutes when we tried to scrub off the ink from the tumbler, we had no luck. We left the metallic tumbler in the bowl filled with apple cider vinegar for another 15 minutes and then tried scrubbing off the sublimation ink. Very little ink came off which was a bit disappointing. We tried to repeat the process 3-4 times but not even half of the ink went off. So, using the apple cider vinegar to remove the sublimation ink from the metal is a bad idea.
Remove Sublimation Ink From Metal Using Bleach
Removing the sublimation ink from metal using bleach is a bit different, lengthy, but working process. It works almost the same as white vinegar but it takes more time than white vinegar. The process starts with pouring the liquid bleach into a bowl and placing the metallic tumbler in it. Make sure that the ink printed sublimation ink part is completely covered in the bleach. Leave it for 45 minutes and then start scrubbing the ink. Place the metallic tumbler again in the bleach and after 15 minutes scrub again. You need to scrub again n again after every 15 minutes 3-4 times and all the sublimation ink will be gone from the metallic tumbler.
That means from all three methods, white vinegar is the fastest and the best method to remove the sublimation ink from metal.
Conclusion
Removing sublimation ink from the metal is an easy process. You just need a standard white vinegar and that’s all you need. Just follow the process explained above and all the sublimation ink will be gone from the metallic object you have such as a tumbler. The best part about this method is that you can then sublimate on that same metal(object) again as well.
